Remote powering is the technology to transport DC power over data cabling for the electrical supply of peripheral equipment such as IP cameras, WiFi access points and the like.
The most commonly used form of remote powering is Power over Ethernet (PoE). These electrical powers cause heating of data cabling and can cause communication problems if the cabling is not installed properly. The NEN-EN 50174 installation standard provides guidelines and describes how cabling should be installed to prevent communication problems in the future.
