More and more often we see that battery pack manufacturers are paying more attention to improving the lifespan and safety of their products. Innovations and technological improvements have greatly increased the energy density, lifespan and reliability of battery packs. A very welcome improvement in a time when there is an increasing demand for energy storage systems, electrically powered vehicles and grid-independent off-grid systems.
A quality connection between every cell
To improve the quality of battery packs, improvements in the production and control process are necessary. An important point of attention is the electrical connection between the individual cells. Random visual inspection of connections is not sufficient. Only a complete electrical resistance measurement provides insight into the quality of the individual connection points.
For this kind of measurements Hioki has developed very accurate measuring instruments. One of those instruments is the RM3545. A DC resistance meter with a large measuring range and high measuring accuracy. Measurements from 0.01µΩ make the RM3545 resistance meter ideally suited for quality control of the connections between the cells in battery packs.
In combination with the 20-channel multiplexer module, multiple connections can be tested simultaneously. The module allows very fast switching between the different measurement channels.
There are also various mainframes available, with which the number of channels of the resistance meter can be easily expanded. These functionalities, the large measuring range and the high measuring accuracy make the RM3545 resistance meter extremely suitable for the quality control of battery packs.
