About 11 percent of the school buildings examined do not meet the legal ventilation standards, but many schools are still investigating the situation at their location. This is evident from the inventory by the National Coordination Team for Ventilation in Schools, which Minister Slob (Primary and Secondary Education) sent to the House of Representatives on 1 October. The government is making 360 million euros available to help school boards and municipalities with adjustments to the ventilation system.

The RIVM concludes, based on current knowledge, that there are no indications that aerosols play a relevant role in the spread of the coronavirus. According to the experts, transmission mainly occurs via droplet infection, for example when infected people cough or sneeze. The RIVM advises to at least follow the existing regulations regarding ventilation. This also applies to schools. Moreover, students learn best in a pleasant environment with healthy air.
