Tightening of environmental performance for buildings on July 1
An amendment to the Building Decree 2012 will come into effect on July 1, 2021. The requirements surrounding the Environmental Performance for buildings (MPG) are being tightened. The aim is to build more circularly and environmentally friendly.
The legal environmental requirements will be tightened step by step. The aim is to halve the standard by 2030 at the latest (from 1.0 to 0.5). The government is investigating how the legal requirements can be expanded to include other uses than just living.
The MPG requirement is not only being tightened; the government is also looking at the possibility of expanding the environmental performance requirement to other user functions and to renovation. The aim is to gradually tighten the requirement and halve it by 2030 at the latest. By 2050, the government wants to achieve a climate-neutral and circular built environment.
