Baas BV technicians follow training Installation of charging stations
'Theory and practice complement each other perfectly'
Baas BV sees opportunities for smart X installations. That is why Baas colleagues Rilana Kal and Danny Bennink followed the two-day training Installing charging stations according to NEN 3140 VP. We will speak to them on the first working day of 2021.
For Rilana (29 years old) the new year starts well with a wonderful promotion to junior mechanic and a permanent contract. She could never have imagined that a few years ago. At the age of 21, she obtained her MBO-4 diploma for Doctor's Assistant, but she soon realized that she wanted something different. Something where she could work with her hands. Then she got the chance to work as an apprentice mechanic at Baas BV; a paid job through employment agency Koers Oost. 'I haven't regretted a single day of starting work here. Baas is a nice company and I have great colleagues. It's nice to be able to work here,' she says enthusiastically.
I'm going to be a mechanic
I have learned a lot as an apprentice mechanic over the past two years. 'You've probably seen a gray cupboard in the street. It contains cables from telecom providers. My day normally consists of installing amplifiers in those end boxes, recutting cables and fitting tabs with new connectors. Wonderful work. You have a lot of freedom and you are busy, but I told my manager that I would like to learn something new. That's the great thing about Baas, you have all kinds of training options here. So I was allowed to follow the training for installing a charging station.'
Smart society
Danny, 26 years old, adds: 'I am a supervisory mechanic and have been working at Baas for 8 years. We work here on all kinds of modern energy and data facilities. Smart The X can stand for anything: a smart city, smart heat generation or smart energy charging. We have now delivered our first charging station plaza for a taxi company in the area.'
Construction of charging station square
Many building owners and private individuals are considering installing charging stations in their parking lots. Legislation has been made for this (read more about that in this article). You also see more and more electric cars driving around and that will only increase in the future. Danny gives the tip to invest smartly in the construction of the necessary charging station infrastructure: 'We advised this customer to install the desired 40 charging stations in phases. First we install all the necessary infrastructure with excess capacity and create a double row of 10 charging stations in the middle of the site, where two vehicles can charge at the same time. Later we will install another two times ten single charging stations on both sides.'
How do you install a charging station?
The training for the installation of charging stations from Dirksen Opleidingen comes at the right time for both technicians. The training lasts two days, alternating theory and practice. 'We're not really into theory,' both colleagues immediately indicate. Still, it was not difficult to follow the material. After a morning of theory, the afternoon was spent practicing connecting different brands and types of charging stations. Danny indicates that there were slightly more consumer brands present than business brands, but thinks the course is applicable to the installation of all types of charging stations.
Step by step explanation
'We work for the business market and focus on larger projects with charging stations. Although I already knew a lot about power calculations, I also gained many new insights that I can immediately apply to our new charging station projects," says Danny. 'I have much less experience than Danny,' says Rilana, 'but I found it very easy to follow. The teacher used nice language and he explained it step by step. It didn't feel strange to ask something.' Both are very pleased with this course.
Work safely
After following the training Installing charging stations according to NEN 3140 VP, you can install a charging station safely. You will learn to work with various types of charging stations, ground cables and components in the distribution box and you will learn to add various charging stations wired or via WiFi to a TCP/IP network. Corona measures are also applied at all Dirksen courses for everyone's safety. 'I wore a face mask while walking through the paths. Fortunately, this was not necessary during the work itself. You had your own workplace at a considerable distance from each other,' Rilana emphasizes.
Promising work
Due to major social challenges, such as digitalization and the energy transition, there is a lot of promising work to be done in technology now and in the future. Over the past two years, Rilana worked on VodafoneZiggo's showpiece in Deventer, Zwolle and Assen: the rollout of Giganet. Together with colleagues she worked on the Cape Horn project. Cape Horn is a nod to the coordinates of the southernmost tip of South America: approximately 55°, 65°. 'We convert dozens of Ziggo street cabinets every week from 1000 to 1200 MHz: ready for the future.'
First charging station project
Rilana also hopes to do her first charging station project this year. What is clear, however, is that she has found her destiny in technology. 'Technology is my thing. It's very nice to be able to do what you like and gain trust from your boss. I would like to develop myself even further in the future, so that I can do different types of technical work. Who knows, I might also train to become an electrician. I just heard that this is also possible with Dirksen.'

SECT training for cable TV work
If you want to work on a cable TV network, it is necessary to be certified. It is therefore important to know how a cable TV network is constructed and what technology is used to transport the signals through the cable. We offer training at all levels: from the basic e-learning CAI technician module to all follow-up SECT certificates required for realizing connections in the home, the district branch network, the district supply network and the main network.
