Cluster meeting EDGE Technologies: EDGE Olympic

Very interesting, inspiring and innovative were just some of the reactions to the cluster meeting at EDGE Technologies in the beautiful Edge Olympic. Thanks to Ruud van der Sman for his inspiring presentation and vision on smart building, sustainability and well being in a building.
 
Ruud van der Sman works at Edge Technologies as Smart Solutions Manager and is responsible for building automation and smart solutions at OVG Real Estate. In his presentation, Ruud gave his vision on smart buildings, sustainability and the well-being of employees and visitors in a building. From Las Palmas in Rotterdam, built in 2007, to Edge Olympic, opened in 2018, development has been rapid. The lessons learned have been applied in Edge Olympic. In Edge Olympic, Edge Technologies occupies a floor that also serves as a showroom for the smart applications that Edge Technologies has developed. From phone booths to smart meeting rooms, noise cancelling and a robot that supports hospitality: everything comes together in this ultra-modern office building.
 
Various innovations have also been implemented in the area of sustainability. EDGE Olympic follows a new sustainability strategy to maximise the benefits for both people and the planet. The building aims to be one of the first offices in the Netherlands to be at least WELL Gold certified and to bring together the latest research and technical innovations in the field of health and wellbeing. In addition, EDGE Olympic is designed to minimise its impact on the environment. Instead of demolishing the original building, it was redeveloped, the builders reused existing materials and introduced circular products and systems. For example, the old natural stone now serves as a floor on the ground floor and the upper part of the building is built with a demountable wooden structure and a certified cradle-to-cradle facade. Energy is also generated by the windows of the building, which employees can use to charge phones and tablets.

Much attention has been paid to the well-being of employees and visitors. It has been shown that the conditions in buildings strongly influence the well-being of people, from providing great comfort and joy to causing serious sick building syndrome. Today's demanding work environment requires workplaces where users can feel at their best. EDGE Technologies strives to increase the health, engagement and productivity of every user in the building, so that the subtenants can excel. The entire building can be controlled with an app. With the app you can call the elevator, order fruit from hospitality that is then delivered to you by a robot, control the lighting etc. All this under the motto of Edge Technologies: the world needs better buildings.
