The Sustainability Factory is the location for renewal, innovation and inspiration
By: Hans Risseeuw
On Wednesday 11 June, FHI will be organising the Digital Building of the Future conference in the Sustainability Factory in Dordrecht. Ambition, innovation and focus on the future are the ideals that connect FHI and the Sustainability Factory.
Digital Building of the Future is the conference where innovation, technology and knowledge sharing come together. Here you will discover how the latest technological developments transform the built environment and how these innovations improve the way we live and work. We are convinced that the substantive program, the extensive exhibition floor with exhibitors and the location reinforce each other.
The Sustainability Factory is a clear example of a building with a view to the future. Circular thinking and sustainability come together in the Sustainability Factory. Sustainable technology is the starting point. The Sustainability Factory invests in innovative production technology aimed at the manufacturing industry and the regional economy. Since 2016, the Sustainability Factory has officially been a Fieldlab Smart Industry.[1]
On the top floor of the Duurzaamheidsfabriek is the LeXlab, an innovation lab with 3D printers and laser cutters. The design of this floor is completely circular. Collaboration and innovation are optimally stimulated here.[2]
The partnership between business, education and government forms the foundation of the Sustainability Factory. FHI encourages this partnership and seeks connections.
Sustainable energy
The Da Vinci College and the Duurzaamheidsfabriek have received an investment from the Regional Investment Fund mbo for the establishment of a CiV Energy. With the CiV Energy, the Da Vinci College can update its education in line with the required competencies for energy tasks in the built environment. This collaboration aims to develop sustainable energy supplies and savings in the built environment.
Innovation projects also take place within the Sustainability Factory. With this, they support companies in their innovation and can offer students experimental learning projects. For example, the innovation project Smart Sustainable Region. With the facilities at the Learning Park, the participating companies, the Sustainability Factory and the Da Vinci College want to develop and demonstrate pilot projects around applications of smart grids. Think of heat and cold storage (WKO) as a hot water application, solar energy and wind applications, technical and organizational application of smart grids, supply and demand matching of energy, also between homes and educational and business buildings and building management systems.[3]
Digital Building of the Future
The Digital Building of the Future conference and the Sustainability Factory are an ideal combination. As soon as you enter the Sustainability Factory, you are in the middle of innovative and sustainable developments. Students, start-ups and established companies work together here. Discover how the latest technological developments are transforming the built environment during the Digital Building of the Future.
