The Itech IT5100 series battery testers have been specifically developed for measuring the internal resistance of a battery. The internal resistance of the battery is an important technical indicator to assess battery performance. It is also a necessary test item when inspecting a battery manufacturing process.

The IT5100 allows you to simultaneously measure the internal resistance and voltage of all types of batteries at high speed. Regardless of whether it concerns button cells or large cell battery packs.

Functions
To avoid the influence caused by cabling and ensure the precision of the test, the IT5101 and IT5101E adopt a four-wire Kelvin resistance measurement method. The measurement is made with a small alternating current, the so-called AC-IR measurement. This has a number of advantages compared to the commonly used DC measurement:

  • The cell does not need to be charged first. This speeds up the measuring process enormously: from at least a few tens of minutes to 10 seconds.
  • Research has shown that a low-frequency AC measurement produces more stable readings.
  • The small AC measuring current does not require extensive equipment. Instead of 100 Adc, current can be measured with 1.5 Aac.

To store data and perform statistical calculations, a USB flash drive can be connected to the IT5101. The measurement data of the IT5100 series can be saved as a .csv file.

Characteristics
The instrument is equipped with a 4.3-inch LCD display that simultaneously shows resistance and voltage. The voltage range is from 10 µV to 300 V and the resistance range from 150 μΩ to 3000 Ω.
GPIB, USB and LAN interfaces are available as standard and the instrument can be controlled via SCPI.

Applications
The IT5100 series is an ideal solution for various types of batteries, such as mobile phones, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV), electric vehicle (EV) batteries, contact resistance, equivalent series resistance (ESR) etc.
