After a period of testing, fine-tuning and even more testing, the dynamic inclinometer from DIS Sensors – represented in the Netherlands and Belgium by Rotero – is ready to conquer the market. This new sensor has been developed to monitor machines and installations without vibrations and shocks affecting the measured values. Operating on a completely newly developed hardware and firmware platform (based on the most modern MEMS chip), the sensor combines a 3-axis acceleration sensor with a 3-axis gyroscope to calculate a reliable inclination value. Efficient, reliable and significantly cheaper than traditional solutions.

All parts of every machine are in constant motion due to operator commands and external factors. In many cases, these movements are transmitted to the control using a so-called inclinometer (1, 2 or 3 axes). To prevent unintentional shocks and vibrations from 'polluting' the signal, filters are applied or additional sensors are used. Although effective, the addition of extra elements also makes it more expensive, complex and susceptible to failure.

However, with the arrival of affordable MEMS (Micro-Electrical-Mechanical Systems) technology, combined with smart software algorithms, new possibilities have emerged to develop a single sensor module that solves the above problems.

As a globally operating specialist in sensors, DIS Sensors focused on this breakthrough and developed a completely new hardware platform based on the MEMS chip. In this dynamic inclinometer, an acceleration sensor is combined with a 3-axis gyroscope. The angle that is transmitted to the control system as a separate, CANopen/J1939 object per axis is therefore gyro-compensated and therefore clean and free from the influence of disruptive vibrations and shocks.

The powerful integrated controller that processes all incoming and outgoing signals can be tailored to the specific application. Predefined profiles are available for this purpose as well as a user-friendly configuration tool. The dimensions of this sensor are identical to the popular DIS QG65 range.
