ECB is phasing out its purchasing program more quickly

- The RIVM reported 74,588 new corona infections on Thursday. That is 263 more than on Wednesday.
- The European Central Bank will phase out the purchasing program more quickly. From May, 30 billion euros will be purchased instead of 40 billion euros monthly. In June the amount will drop to 20 billion euros. Interest rates may then be raised to curb inflation, says the ECB.
- Inflation in the Netherlands was 6.2 percent higher in February than a year ago. In January, monetary depreciation was higher at 6.7 percent, reports CBS.
- Shell will write off $3.4 billion after the decision to leave Russia. The energy giant announced two weeks ago that it would completely withdraw from Russia, writes NU.nl.
- US President Biden wants to conduct an investigation into the possibilities and risks of digital currencies. There will be research into a digital dollar, but also into dangers such as money laundering and systemic risks, reports The New York Times.
