Efficiently produce ice cubes with the IP67 PROFINET switches from Helmholz

Budé Innovative Solutions bv, part of the Budé Group, has built a unique machine for the ice cream industry. This machine is fully washdown designed and produces approximately 20 tons of crystal clear ice cubes per day at minimal energy costs.

Sven Kuypers, Sr. Engineer Industrial Automation at Budé: “The CubyKing, as the machine is called, is an ice cream machine made completely from stainless steel 304. The machine is characterized by its high production capacity in combination with its relatively compact dimensions.”

Because they have to integrate a lot of technology on a small footprint, it was decided to place the PROFINET participants, including the switches, as decentrally as possible. The 44 Servo motors with integrated drives, the 4 valve islands and the remote IO are all decentrally located and equipped with IP67.

All these PROFINET participants are connected to the IP67 managed PROFINET switches from Helmholz via M12 technology. These are switches that have been certified by the PI organization. They are easy to include in the hardware configuration of the PLC and this creates the most optimal functionality.
