There are a huge variety of cable reels, from simple domestic applications to complex applications in ports and offshore oil platforms.
The similarity between both types of cable reels, regardless of the final application, is the use of a slip ring also called slip ring. Cable reels normally transport power, electrical signals, data or various types of fluids.
Slip rings are used for transmission of high frequency signals, high data rates or where a low bit error rate (BER) is required. Here the right result is achieved with a fiber optic slip ring.
The Eltrex Motion product range includes electric, fluid, fibre optic and combined (electric + fluid + optical) slip rings. There are 2 types of cable reels: spring-loaded and motorised. In the latter case, an electric motor performs the winding and unwinding of the cables.
