EMS Cluster discussing the pitfalls of Export Compliance
The principle of applies within the European Union 'free traffic of goods'. This makes it easier for companies to trade with each other. However, for the United States this is somewhat more complicated due to important legislation regarding Export Compliance. Both a seller and buyer of products must comply with applicable laws. Doesn't that work? Then you will not receive the goods.
“Export Compliance includes all activities of import and export of goods and/or services, tangible and intangible assets (including the transfer of means of payment, which are in one way or another subject to regulations applicable to transactions between two different states/ areas of law” – ExportCompliance.eu.
During the EMS cluster meeting on March 16 at Arrow Electronics specialist Jos op 't Hoog discussed the applicable laws and regulations with the cluster members. He explained what to look out for, specifically zooming in on the electronics market and trade with the United States. Careless handling of export regulations can lead to severe penalties. For example, Jos gave an example of a Dutch company that turned out to be trading with an Iranian company that was linked to nuclear weapons projects. Such sanctions can have serious consequences. Consider, for example, stricter customs checks prior to each export operation and more frequent customs checks on location. And in the case of American law, it can even lead to an exclusion from trade with American parties.
Animo in Component Database XS Parts is increasing
Last year it informed EMS cluster already about the component database, XS Parts. Cluster members can buy or sell small and large quantities of components via this online platform. The platform was devised by the members themselves in response to the global component shortage.
The database has recently been put into use by all cluster members. In addition, many responses have been received in response to the publication of the news item about this database. The number of users of the database has increased and is still increasing. Currently, almost 14 million components (22,500 unique parts) are offered by database users. The EMS cluster will meet again soon to discuss future plans for the database. Are you interested in the component database and do you work in the EMS sector?
