Eric van Schagen and Peter van Uhm teach FHI members the value of discipline

Impressive, educational and relaxed, those three words characterize the FHI member network meeting with former commander of the Dutch Armed Forces Peter van Uhm. Anyone who chose not to be there in the impressive building in the beautiful surroundings of Radio Kootwijk missed something special. The life lessons for leaders that Van Uhm, super eloquent and constantly conveyed anecdotally, were phenomenal. A silent room and then a round of applause that went on and on, it says it all. It is also great that Van Uhm was able to respond to the opening speech of FHI chairman Eric van Schagen: "In our companies, creativity only comes into its own if there is sufficient discipline." Many stories and life lessons from General Peter van Uhm can be read in his biography 'I chose the weapon', the title he himself gave the book. A weapon is a technological product, especially in this century. You can use that for good or for bad. Dealing with this well requires a lot from people, perhaps best summarized in the word 'wisdom', which does not come to you but comes from a regularly intense process of formation, allowing yourself to be shaped and corrected, especially by people whom you lead yourself. During the member network meeting, the FHI members present were challenged to make at least three to five new contacts with member companies that they themselves did not yet know. It has not been checked whether that actually happened, but everyone certainly worked on that assignment in a disciplined manner. For all those present, Radio Kootwijk had a copy of the book 'I chose the weapon' by General bd Van Uhm. During the networking drinks, Van Uhm personally signed a book for everyone.
