ETEL torque motors from the TMB+ series are optionally available with a water cooling jacket. For more than a decade, ETEL has been producing high-quality frameless torque motors that are integrated into the heart of thousands of machine tools worldwide. The advantages of direct drive torque motors, compared to conventional drives, are very well known in the industry. More and more machine manufacturers are using these direct drive motors to precisely control their machine axes. Direct drive technology is also widely used in the semiconductor and electronics industries because of the high speeds and large accelerations that are required in these applications.

Until now, designing the water cooling of frameless torque motors was mainly the responsibility of the machine manufacturer. The watertightness of the design required a lot of extra attention. With the introduction of the cooling jacket option on the TMB+ motors, ETEL offers the solution that now makes integration and design much easier. This takes away many of the machine manufacturer's concerns. This gives freedom of choice for other machine designs and material choices, which can lead to significant cost savings. With a range of no fewer than 62 different motor variants that can be equipped with a cooling jacket, ETEL is a unique player on the market.

TMB+ engines:

  • outer diameter 1,290 mm and with inner diameters up to 1,070 mm
  • maximum torque up to 42,900 Nm
  • speed up to 4,590 rpm

The cooling jacket concept is robust, effective and optimized for easy installation. It consists of a precisely mounted metal jacket, which guarantees water tightness and with which exactly the same engine performance is achieved as with the conventional "open cooling" installation.

The responsibility for water tightness now lies with ETEL and no longer with the machine manufacturer.

  • This leads to less design effort, faster machine qualification, shorter time-to-market times and therefore lower costs.
  • The casting and construction material of the machine can be of lower quality, as it no longer needs to be waterproof. This can mean a considerable saving on the total design costs of a machine.
  • The casting and construction of the machine require less precision machining to accommodate the engine. In fact, only the mounting surface of the engine needs to be precise.
  • The conventional servo drive can easily be replaced by the TMB+ with cooling jacket.
