The STA, Safety Trip Alarm, is part of the functional safety series from Moore Industries. The STA is certified for IEC61508 part 1,2 and 3 certified by TÜV for SIL2 applications. The firmware can be used for SIL3! This also makes the unit suitable for redundant applications (1oo2, 2oo3, etc.) for SIL3.
The STA accepts signals from transmitters (current and voltage input) and from temperature sensors (RTD and thermocouple), resistance and potentiometer signals. It is also equipped with 3 failsafe alarm outputs, 2 freely configurable process alarms and the third alarm is used as a false alarm for diagnostics in case of internal and external errors such as software error, loss of sensor or if a poor quality input signal occurs.
The STA is equipped with an extensive FMEDA (Failure Modes, Effects and Diagnostics Analysis) report.
