The new Electronic Key System EKS2 simply contains everything!
The new Electronic-Key-System EKS2, developed by Euchner in the German city of Leinfelden-Echterdingen, is the latest generation of key systems. The new product meets three objectives: it is easy to implement, easy to operate and easy to adapt. As a safety specialist, it is natural for Euchner to focus on safety engineering.
The new generation of products is a logical successor to the successful EKS system and has many advantages in the field of digital access control and the selection of a safe operating mode. Template projects with predefined functions and data fields have reduced the programming work required to integrate the system to a minimum. For example, current requirements, including security factors, have been taken into account from the outset.
Euchner uses PROFINET for communication purposes, together with reliable, safe semiconductor outputs. The PROFINET switch that is part of the system makes it very easy to integrate into a comprehensive bus system. The 1-of-n safe outputs are directly connected to a safe control system and are evaluated there. This makes it possible to select a safe operating mode at the highest safety level, for example PLe.
Instead of programming the entire selection of safe operating modes into the control system, as was the case in the past, customers can now select a suitable project and easily configure individual parameters via the GSDML file in their configuration software. Other benefits include compact dimensions, industrial keys and a hygienically designed reading unit.
“The development process was based on more than 20 years of experience with the existing EKS system and many conversations with customers,” said Product Manager Marc Wiederoder, adding: “Sometimes only a few improvements are needed to make an already good system even better. Our main goal was to design a system that is as easy as possible for customers to use.”
