How the development in E-bike connectors can suddenly be interesting for outdoor lighting

Higo is originally an E-bike connector manufacturer and market leader in Europe. Despite the fact that Higo develops connectors with E-bike applications in mind, the requirements placed on these connectors show many similarities with the outdoor lighting market.

'Just like with E-bikes, space is often a critical point for luminaires. Compact solutions are therefore often recommended here. In addition, water resistance plays an important role. Just like E-bikes, lighting luminaires are often located in outdoor environments where a protection degree of IP66/IP67 applies', explains Maarten Voermans, CEO of A&C Solutions.

New compact, waterproof designs

Higo recently expanded its signal connectors with 3 new, extremely compact designs that also closely match the requirements of outdoor lighting applications. The most compact is the 2-pole micro A connector with a diameter of only 4.8 mm. In order to combine power and control, Higo also offers a 5-pole micro F connector of 6.5 mm and a 6-pole micro D connector of only 6 mm. These Higo connectors are already molded and all offer an IP67 protection degree.

Unconventional approach gives Higo a first

'The 6-pole micro D in particular is an example of how Higo's focus on R&D leads to new solutions', Maarten continues. In order to realise such a number of poles within such a compact space, Higo has taken a different approach with this design. A different type of connection has been chosen where male and female contacts are no longer separated but rather combined. Both connectors offer both 3 male and 3 female contacts. 'With this, Higo has a first. The Z606D is therefore the most compact 6-pole connector on the market, Maarten concludes proudly.'
