NUMERIK JENA, a subsidiary of HEIDENHAIN, has achieved a new milestone in the HEIDENHAIN Group's absolute encoder offering with the development of the LAK absolute linear encoder. A combination of incremental and absolute measuring technology results in high maximum traverse speeds and high achievable resolutions.

The advantages of this are:

  • absolute interface (EnDat 2.2)
  • accurate (±3 µm)
  • high resolution (up to 78 nm)
  • very small and light weight (≤5.5 g)
  • online signal optimization
  • customer-specific mechanical solutions
  • dirt-resistant
  • diagnosis information

Very compact dimensions and possible customer-specific adjustments
As usual, much attention has been paid to the development of both the very compact dimensions and possible customer-specific adjustments. A special kit version (Kit LA) is available for use in very small spaces. This LAK encoder is not only very small in the Kit version, but also modular.

Excellent properties
The combination of incremental and absolute measuring technology in combination with the EPIFLEX sensor module gives this encoder its outstanding features:

  • high resolution up to 78 nm (without additional electronics)
  • high speeds up to 10 m/s
  • very low weight
  • automatic signal optimization after installation, with a variety of analysis options using ABSOFLEX software

And finally:

  • good resistance to contamination due to the double scanning field (incremental) and double scanning (absolute)

Kit variant: small but nice
The kit variant is called “Kit LA” and in technical terms it only differs in the mechanical design. The Kit LA was developed for applications where there is little installation space, such as in surgical robots. The sensor modules of this variant are particularly flat and are mounted in a customer-specific frame or housing.

A vacuum-resistant version for semiconductor applications, for example, is available on request.
