B&R servo drive with integrated Safe Torque determination reduces costs
B&R has equipped the ACOPOS P3 servo drive with a Safe Torque determination. This allows the use of numerous safety functions that previously required an external sensor. This reduces the costs of complying with the Machinery Directive.
The Safe Torque determination is based on an internal current measurement and enables the safety functions Safely Limited Torque (SLT), Safe Speed Observer (SSO) and Safe Brake Test (SBT). The functions are suitable for safety applications up to level SIL 2 / PL d / Cat. 3.
Safely prevent overload
For example, the SLT function can be used to reliably limit the torque on the drive system. In this way, mechanical overload can be avoided and safely averted. In addition, mechanical designs with SLT can be made more cost-effective. SLT also minimizes the risk of operators being injured by crushing or being crushed while working on a machine.
Ensuring operator safety
The SSO function is a virtual speed sensor that allows the SLS safety function to be used without the need for a safe encoder. This is especially useful when using linear or torque motors, as these types of motors usually do not have an integrated safe encoder.
Testing reliable holding brakes
The SBT function can be used to safely monitor and control the operation of a holding brake. The collected data provides insight into the condition of the brake and any damage or wear.
