The statutory minimum wage will increase slightly as of July 1. As of July 1, 2016, the gross statutory minimum wage is €1,537.20 per month, €354.75 per week and €70.95 per day.

Minimum hourly wage

The gross minimum wage per hour for an employee aged 23 years and older with a full-time employment contract of respectively 36, 38 or 40 hours per week as of July 1, 2016 is:
  • 36-hour working week: €9.86
  • 38-hour working week: €9.34
  • 40-hour working week: €8.87

Minimum youth wage

Employees under the age of 23 are entitled to a fixed percentage of the gross statutory minimum wage. The statutory minimum youth wage as of July 1, 2016 is:
  • 22 years: €1,306.60 per month (85%)
  • 21 years: €1,114.45 per month (72.5%)
  • 20 years: €945.40 per month (61.5%)
  • 19 years: €807.05 per month (52.5%)
  • 18 years: €699.45 per month (45.5%)
  • 17 years: €607.20 per month (39.5%)
  • 16 years: €530.35 per month (34.5%)
  • 15 years: €461.15 per month (30%)

Delete minimum youth wage from age 21

The government wants to gradually lower the age at which the statutory minimum wage for adults starts. The abolition will take place in two steps: next year and in 2019. In the first step, the age will be lowered to 22 years. The age will then be lowered to 21 years. The minimum youth wage scale for young people aged 18, 19 and 20 will also be adjusted.
