Ericsson and Vodafone Ziggo together on Industrial Ethernet
Mobile network applications for industry
By: Hans Risseeuw
The FHI event Industrial Ethernet 2025 is the meeting place for professionals looking for reliable network architectures. Andries Burghgraef and Iris Hertsenberg will jointly give the opening presentation in which they will explore the possibilities of 5G and mobile networks for the industry.
Reliable connectivity as the key to success
Andries Burghgraef, senior product manager at VodafoneZiggo, knows better than anyone how crucial a stable and reliable network is, especially in the industry. Vodafone Netherlands has one of the best mobile networks worldwide and we see the change that companies increasingly want to handle their business (critical) data via the mobile network. "Together with a number of innovative companies, we investigate how new and existing network technologies can contribute to the development of new concepts or the simplification of existing processes", summarizing the Dutch entrepreneurial mentality.
The Impact of Network Neutrality
A major shift in the sector is the use of mobile networks for business applications. But what does this mean for net neutrality? According to the European directive BEREC[1] providers must treat all data traffic equally, without commercial preferences. However, there are now opportunities to 'reserve' a part of the network, so that companies get more certainty regarding the capacity that is needed for their specific purposes - even in the case of congestion on the network due to, for example, a major event or other causes.
Slicing & mobile private networks
In order to meet the increasing demands from governments and companies, Vodafone Business is developing new premium connectivity technologies such as slicing, which allocates users a specific part of the network capacity. In addition, mobile private networking offers a solution for sectors such as warehousing, where companies are given their own mobile network – completely separate or partly integrated into the public network.
Iris Hertsenberg will further explain the possibilities for warehousing during the presentation. One thing is certain: mobile networks are playing an increasingly important role in industrial applications. According to Andries, the momentum is there for companies to explore these opportunities: “technological developments are moving fast and it is very interesting to start investigating now what this can mean for you or your customers”.
