Murrelektronik's MVK Fusion hybrid fieldbus modules combine three essential installation technology functions: discrete I/O, safety I/O, and IO-Link. This smart 3-in-1 solution is gaining popularity worldwide. Therefore, the company is now introducing a hybrid module for EtherNet/IP applications based on the Common Industrial Protocol Safety (CIP Safety): the new MVK Fusion CIP Safety.

Simplifying industrial automation with smart, seamless, and cost-efficient solutions – that's Murrelektronik's DNA.

The MVK Fusion fieldbus modules are a prime example. These hybrid modules combine three basic installation technology functions: discrete I/O, safety I/O, and IO-Link. These are available via eight M12 ports on the module, port:

X0, X1, X2: 6 pcs. safe digital inputs (FDI)

X3: 2 x safe digital outputs (FDO)

X4, X5: Digital inputs or outputs (DIO)

X6 : IO-Link Master class A / Digital input (DI)

X7: IO-Link Master class B / Digital output (DO) with safe shutdown up to SIL2

The combination of standard and safety communication in a single module simplifies the system architecture and significantly simplifies and accelerates installation – typical of Murrelektronik.

Thanks to this innovative approach, machine builders and system integrators need fewer fieldbus modules per machine – ideally just one. This minimizes installation effort and also saves valuable space.

3-in-1 module now also available for EtherNet/IP

With the MVK Fusion CIP Safety, the Fusion family welcomes a new member. As the name suggests, this module uses Common Industrial Protocol Safety – or CIP Safety for short. This means that machine builders and system integrators can now also benefit from this popular 3-in-1 concept and its many advantages in EtherNet/IP applications.

CIP Safety is a certified extension of the widely used CIP protocol (IEC 61508) that enables secure data transmission in real time – without the need for separate safety networks. The new MVK Fusion CIP Safety supports this functionality and helps engineers easily integrate safety into both new and existing EtherNet/IP systems.

The module features robust M12 L-coded power connections, ideal for installations with limited space. In addition to their compact design, these connectors offer high current capacity, reliability, and proven coding.

The configuration of safety sensors and actuators has also been simplified. This is done directly in the controller's engineering software. Therefore, no external tools are required to transfer the Safety Network Number (SNN) or device settings, which speeds up commissioning and prevents errors.

The secure output port X3 offers unmatched flexibility. It can be configured as two sourcing outputs, one bipolar output, or a combination of both.

Important to know: Each port can be individually customized to meet the application's requirements. This increases the flexibility and performance of the entire system.

The new MVK Fusion CIP Safety is yet another smart solution that seamlessly integrates with Murrelektronik's DNA. The module is a valuable addition to the growing EtherNet/IP product family, which also includes the MVK Pro IO-Link Master and powerful managed switches.

Robust design for maximum flexibility

Murrelektronik is a pioneer in decentralized electrical installation and automation technology and the global market leader in this field.

That's why the new MVK Fusion CIP Safety modules are meticulously designed for installation close to the process and use in demanding environments. They are IP67-certified and feature a robust, fully encapsulated metal housing that is resistant to shock, vibration, and temperatures from -30°C to +60°C.

Comprehensive diagnostic capabilities are also a hallmark of Murrelektronik: the device continuously monitors each individual channel status, such as overload, short circuit, and cable break. This proactive concept enables faster fault detection and resolution, minimizing unplanned downtime.
