I am Niek Moonen, 29 years old, grew up in Uden, North Brabant and moved to Enschede for studies where I completed my bachelor's, master's and PhD degrees at the University of Twente. I have been fulfilling my role as a researcher in the department since January 2019 Power Electronics and EMC, whose main responsibility is the daily supervision of about 8 PhD candidates. My specialty lies in disturbances that propagate via conductors (Conducted EMI).
The topics of the PhD projects (SCENT, ETOPIA and MeterEMI) range from sensitivity to interference of smart meters to optimization of the design of complex electronic systems. The future projects EASIER and ANRGI, will focus on electric flying and EMC-oriented optimization of power electronics in areas where there is a weak energy supply and therefore locally renewable energy sources are installed. In addition to my supervisory work, I am a reviewer for “IEEE Transactions on EMC” and a member of the IEEE EMC society TC-07 “Low Frequency EMC”. I am also involved in the standardization committee CENELEC SC205A-WG11, which specifically deals with “Mains Communication Systems – Immunity”.
In addition to the responsibilities of daily work life, relaxation is of course also an important part of my life. I have been playing football for almost 25 years, first at FC Uden and now in Enschede at VOGIDO. I also like to go on a skiing holiday, with Austria as my favorite destination. Although I would like to go skiing in Colorado again for comparison.
Welcome Niek Moonen to the board of the Dutch EMC-ESD association!
