BREEAM-NL New Construction 2020 has seen the light of day. The new assessment guideline was launched on June 30 during the Real Estate Futureproof real estate fair by DGBC director Annemarie van Doorn.

BREEAM-NL New Construction is managed by the Dutch Green Building Council and is the quality mark in the Netherlands to comprehensively assess new construction projects for sustainability performance. BREEAM-NL New Construction 2020 is the successor to the 2014 assessment guideline and has a number of striking new developments. In addition to the assessment of the building as it is put into use, it is now also possible to certify only the shell of a building, or the shell and the central installations. The holistic approach to sustainability in BREEAM-NL pays close attention to current themes such as circularity, energy reduction, climate adaptation and health.

Health in buildings

Due to the outbreak of the corona crisis, the new guideline pays more attention than ever to the well-being of people who work in buildings. This has always been an important part of a BREEAM-NL assessment. The criteria in this area have been revised for the New Construction 2020 version. For example, the criteria for ventilation in BREEAM-NL New Construction 2020 have been adapted to the recommended ventilation requirements with regard to combating virus spread.
