Especially for safety-critical applications, DIS Sensors has supplemented the QG40N sensor series with a tilt switch that meets SIL1/PLc class. Because all mandatory safety controls are housed in one housing, the OEM can now realize functional safety using one element instead of two. By using two tilt switches of this type, a safety of PL2 can be realized.

Tilt switches are electronic accelerometers with a switching output where the preset angle is horizontal. This type of sensor is ideal for monitoring a maximum tilt angle of a platform or ensuring the reach of a crane or a boom.

When the measured angle exceeds the set angle, the sensor will switch the output and inform the control unit of the application of the situation. This can then react in the desired way (for example with an (audible) alarm, limiting the speed of a vehicle or putting the machine in safe mode). It is also a more efficient alternative compared to mercury or proximity switches.

NEW: for SIL1/PLc class

In order to be able to use these flexible and widely used switches in safety-critical applications, DIS Sensors developed a special version in which all mandatory safety checks within the framework of SIL1 are accommodated in one housing. When two sensors of this type are used, a Performance Level 2 can be achieved.

This version can be programmed for one or two axes, whereby the angle can be set to ±170° and from ±80° respectively. Furthermore, the tilt switch is equipped with a dual output PNP up to 200 mA and is included in a robust housing with protection class IP67&IP69K. It also offers an accuracy of 0.5°. Finally, the sensor can be 'zeroed' after mounting, which contributes to more assembly tolerances and thus reduces production and service costs.

A configurator is optionally available that allows customers to independently set their switching points, delay times, hysteresis and signal filters.

Summary:

  • Functional safety: SIL1 (IEC 62061) / PLc (EN ISO 13849)
  • Tilt switch programmable for one or two axes
  • Contactless, so no wear and tear, robust housing with protection class IP67&IP69K
  • 1 axis up to ±170° and two axes from ±80°
  • Dual output PNP up to 200 mA
  • Accuracy 0.5°, zero function
  • UL certified, flexibility, low cost
  • Adaptable for OEMs
