The use of near infrared (NIR) spectroscopy is growing in the biofuel industry. It is therefore a much cheaper and very fast alternative to analyze the quality of biodiesel compared to GC, infrared, Raman or NMR methods. Important parameters such as moisture, different types of esters, mono-, di-, triglycerine can be quantified quickly. Viscosity can also be measured with NIR. The measurement can be performed in real time with a in-line, on-site or portable analysis instrument.

The EN14214 standard includes no less than 25 parameters to certify the quality of biodiesel. NIR can measure almost all of these. Would you like more information about the use of NIR for the quantification of parameters in or the quality of biodiesel?
