OMRON introduces the next generation i4H SCARA robot series for the toughest tasks
The robust i4H SCARA robot is suitable for payloads of up to 15 kg and is designed for easy integration into the production line.
OMRON’s latest industrial robot, the new i4H SCARA, is designed to meet the demand for mass customization. It enables manufacturers to produce a wide range of products in small batches to meet the needs of a wide range of customers. The i4H SCARA follows the recent release of the i4L light-duty SCARA robot.
The i4H has unique design features that underline OMRON’s excellence and innovation. OMRON has simplified the design of complex tools by integrating OMRON’s EtherCAT module directly into the robot arm. A new generation of integrated controller technology means less space required and less maintenance. The i4H also comes with interactive maintenance as a built-in out-of-the-box feature. The high speed and high precision of the i4H SCARA enables components to be assembled accurately and reliably.
“In today’s global economy, the impact of COVID-19 is undeniable. With strict social distancing requirements and safety protocols in place for all factory operations, the need for an adapted production line is greater than ever before. The i4H plays a key role in automating the workflow while allowing workers to maintain a safe distance from each other and focus on other tasks,” said Motohiro Yamanishi, Senior General Manager of the Robotics Business Development Project at OMRON’s Industrial Automation Company.
“OMRON’s i4H SCARA robot meets the need for reliability when working with heavy loads that require speed and precision 24 hours a day. The i4H is an ideal addition to a production line for applications such as palletizing and machine loading in the food and beverage industry,” said Tom Mathias, President, and CEO of OMRON Robotics and Safety Technologies, Inc., a leading provider of robotics and safety solutions for the manufacturing industry and part of OMRON’s Industrial Automation Business.
Features of the i4H SCARA include:
Higher charging capacities: OMRON’s i4H SCARA is designed for heavy loads up to 15 kg. These higher payloads are essential for applications such as machine loading and unloading, palletizing and pick and place applications. The i4H is ideal for companies in the automotive, food and beverage and consumer industries.
Seamless integration in existing production lines: OMRON’s EtherCAT connectivity enables synchronization with other automation equipment. This simplifies advanced assembly, placement and mounting processes that require high accuracy and high throughput, and ensures quality control with vision integration. In addition, the i4H is available in a wide range of configurations for any work cell.
Maximum uptime: Users can Manage and reduce unplanned downtime by using the best built-in interactive maintenance features. The robot comes with a revolutionary display to simplify troubleshooting. The i4H is equipped with the world's first health indicator. The user can take the right action by looking at the color displayed on the robot.
Additional features include:
- Max. load capacity of 15 kg
- Options for 650mm, 750mm and 850mm reach
- A standard 210 mm axle or optionally a 410 mm long axle
- All three models can be mounted on the floor, wall* or inverted on the ceiling
- Programming with EtherCAT and Ethernet* support
- The world's first health indicators
- Interactive maintenance functions*

About 'innovative-Automation'
Recently, OMRON has developed a concept for innovation in manufacturing called “innovative-Automation”. With this concept, OMRON is currently committed to enabling innovation in manufacturing sites through three major innovations, or three “i’s”. Through these automation innovations, OMRON aims to enable significant productivity improvements in manufacturing sites to realize high-value-added manufacturing. With the first “i”, “integrated” (evolution of control), OMRON will seek to improve automated control technology so that virtually any operator, even an inexperienced operator, can effortlessly perform work that previously required the expert skills of experienced workers. With the second “i”, “intelligent” (development of intelligence through ICT), OMRON aims to create ever-evolving equipment and production lines. By using a wide range of control devices and artificial intelligence (AI), machines can learn through experience and keep themselves in optimal condition. For the third “i,” “interactive” (new harmonization between humans and machines), OMRON aims to develop a new harmonious relationship between human operators and machines. Working together in the same workspace, machines will be able to assist human operators by recognizing human thoughts and behavior in a way that only OMRON, a specialized control equipment manufacturer that knows the manufacturing floor inside and out, can realize.
