Open Industry 4.0 Alliance steps up internationalization starting with Netherlands focus

• Alliance will be present at World of Automation in Utrecht, the Netherlands (Sept. 27-30, 2022)
• New member of the Alliance is TNO, the natural sciences research organization in the Netherlands that has been in existence for more than 90 years
• Shining example of the Alliance's implementation power is the first Implementation Award for the Dutch Duurzaamsfabriek, or Sustainability Factory (from February 2022)

Reinach, Switzerland, 05.09.2022 – The Open Industry 4.0 Alliance is purposefully pushing ahead with its internationalization approach. The focus in the coming weeks will be on the Netherlands where its flagship project is an integrated process factory in the Duurzaamsfabriek (the Sustainability Factory) at the ROC da Vinci College in Dordrecht near Rotterdam. The project received the first Implementation Award from the Alliance in February 2022.

Now the Alliance is organizing contributions on Industry 4.0 at the World of Automation (WoTS 2022) in Utrecht from September 27 to 30, 2022, in close coordination with trade fair organization FHI (Federation of Technology Industries, the Federation of Technology Industries, in existence since 1956). The Open Industry 4.0 Alliance stand is located in Hall 8-8A031.

The Alliance has also announced a new strategic partner and member in the Netherlands: TNO, the state-owned Society for Applied Scientific Research, established in 1930. The Netherlands is one of the Alliance's ' Local Hubs'. As part of its internationalization strategy, these hubs form a regional expression of the work of the Alliance across each of its individual countries. The Open Industry 4.0 Alliance currently has around 100 members.

Digitization and Industry 4.0 are happening against a backdrop of supply chain issues, cybersecurity challenges, geopolitical conflicts, the energy crisis, and climate change. In this context, industry transformation is increasingly an urgent necessity rather than a “nice-to-have”. To deliver that, problem-solving must be addressed globally. To this end, the alliance wants the initial spark to come from Europe's industry. With its activities in the Netherlands, the Open Industry 4.0 Alliance is providing a blueprint for this approach.

“The growth strategy of the Open Industry 4.0 Alliance is having an impact, including internationalization. Part of this strategy is the local member companies and partner organizations in each respective country, which bring the added value created by the Alliance to the end-customer markets and provide support in scaling Industry 4.0 initiatives,” explains Ekrem Yigitdöl, Managing Director at the Open Industry 4.0 Alliance. “Through partnerships with established local organizations, we are joining forces. I look forward to helping the Alliance's growth process in the Netherlands together with FHI and TNO.”

“TNO's Smart Industry Roadmap is focused on supporting the digitization of Dutch industry,” says Adam Schmidt, Program Manager at the TNO Smart Industry Roadmap. “However, in today's tightly connected world, we cannot achieve this alone. That is why it is so important for us to collaborate with influential and recognized international organizations such as the Open Industry 4.0 Alliance. In this way, we want to ensure that we don't reinvent the wheel and can benefit from the developments of others, that we can share our experiences and results with the broader community, and ultimately achieve the standardization needed for (at least) pan -European interoperability in the industry.”

Alliance's appearance at the World of Automation in the Netherlands

The Open Industry 4.0 Alliance will also be represented by partners at World of Automation. For example, Alliance member Endress+Hauser will present a multi-vendor wall in line with the Alliance's objectives. In coordination with the FHI trade fair organization, the Alliance will also be holding presentations on the integrated process factory as part of the Sustainability Factory Dordrecht, the application of the Asset Administration Shell using the example of multi-vendor condition monitoring in the food and beverage industry, a project in intralogistics (second Implementation Award), and the organization of the Open Industry 4.0 Alliance.

“FHI is partnering with the Open Industry 4.0 Alliance during the World of Technology & Science to showcase an open approach,” said Paul Petersen, Director at FHI. “The current challenges facing end users are too big for individual companies to solve on their own. Alliance members include industry leaders who are pragmatically implementing cross-industry solutions.”
