From January 5, 2021, importers, distributors and manufacturers must register products with the designation 'Substances of Very High Concern' (SVHC) in the so-called SCIP database of the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA).

The SCIP database has been set up because the SCIP has become an obligation in the registration of hazardous substances. With this obligation, the agency hopes to create more transparency about the creation and use of hazardous substances. The aim is to reduce its use in the European Union.

Earlier this year, VNO-NCW and MKB-Nederland established a letter sent to the Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management with improvement proposals for the SCIP. These adjustments could be included in a European context and have also been recognized by the ministry. However, the European Commission and the ECHA have currently ignored this criticism. If this changes, we will notify you.

It is therefore desirable that you make appropriate preparations if you use SVHC resources in your company. The advice is to complete the SCIP database as completely as possible. Preferably before January 5, 2021. This can be done on the ECHA website.
