Out research The Netherlands Environmental Assessment Agency (PBL) has shown that the Netherlands will be the biggest loser among the EU member states if there is a hard Brexit on 1 January. If the talks between the EU and the United Kingdom continue to stall, the British will initially suffer, according to the PBL. But Dutch industry is strongly linked to British business. Think for example of the chemical industry, floriculture and steel. In the event of a hard Brexit, they will face higher import duties and more expensive products.

The letter from Kaag and Keijzer again points to making the necessary preparations so that companies with trade relations in the UK can continue to import and export after 1 January. At this time, it is not yet clear what type of Brexit ('hard' or 'soft'), and under what conditions, will take effect from 1 January 2021. However, there are enough actions and measures that entrepreneurs can already take in preparation.
