The shielding effectiveness is the ability of cables and connectors to prevent unwanted electromagnetic radiation from entering the inner conductor wire and, conversely, from unwanted radiation from escaping.

There are various methods to measure shielding effectiveness. Koen Schepers from TE Connectivity goes in his presentation focuses on the Tube-in-tube method, specially developed to perform an easy and quick test for cable assemblies and connectors, using a network analyzer.

Three parameters are used to characterize the effectiveness of shielded screens; Transfer Impedance, Screening Attenuation and Couple Attenuation. These parameters are discussed in detail in the presentation.
