Signal cables installed in parallel with high-voltage cables cause an unreliable interface with standard relays, especially over long distances.
Capacitive operation ensures that relays and opto-couplers are undesirably energized, or remain undesirably energized after switching off the control voltage. These undesirable effects also occur in installations where frequency controllers are used.
