Programmable power supplies with 50 V, 400 V and 500 V output for EV hydrogen production applications

TDK Corporation (TSE 6762) introduces new models in the TDK-Lambda GENESYS+™ series of programmable DC power supplies with output voltages of 50 V, 400 V and 500 V respectively. With output powers of 5 kW, 10 kW and 15 kW in 1U-, 2U and 3U high 19” rack versions, the new G50, G400, G500, GSP50, GSP400 and GSP500 models are fully compatible with the versions in the existing series. Applications for the new models include testing electric vehicle (EV) propulsion systems and other automotive subsystems, and proton exchange membrane electrolysis (PEM) for hydrogen production. With the output voltages optimized for these applications, the power supplies can deliver more current, eliminating the need to connect two or more units in parallel.

All models can switch seamlessly between constant voltage and constant current operation. There is also a mode for operation at a limited constant power. For higher powers, multiple power supplies can be connected in parallel with an advanced master/slave system that provides dynamic load response and ripple and noise characteristics comparable to those of a single power supply.

The new GENESYS+™ products are available with a 3-phase input range of 170-264 VAC, 342-460 VAC or 342-528 VAC. Weighing less than 7.5 kg, the 5 kW GENESYS+™ power supplies are easy to move and install. For situations where user access is not required or must be limited, the power supplies can optionally be equipped with a blank front panel without measurement and control functions. Dust filters can be clicked onto the power supplies to keep dust particles out of the ambient air.

All 1 kW to 15 kW models of the GENESYS+™ series are programmed in the same way. This can be done using the control buttons on the front panel, remotely via LAN (LXI 1.5), USB 2.0 and RS232/485 or via the isolated analogue control and monitoring interface (0-5 V, 0-10 V). Optional interfaces are GPIB (IEEE488.2) and the Anybus CompactCom interface platform for EtherCAT, Modbus-TCP and other interfaces to be released. The software package includes software drivers, a waveform generator and a virtual GUl for the front panel. Safety is ensured by standard features such as Safe/Auto Re-Start and Last Setting Memory, as well as various built-in protection functions.

The power supplies have a warranty period of five years. They are safety certified according to IEC/EN/UL 61010-1 and are CE marked for the EMC, Low Voltage and RoHS Directives. The series also meets the IEC/EN 61203-3 standard for conducted EMI, radiated EMI and EMC immunity.
