More than ten years ago, FHI, the federation of technology industries, took the initiative to establish the Recycling Technological Equipment Foundation. The founding is a collective producer system for the members of FHI and related companies, which implements the legal obligations of the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE Regulation) as efficiently and effectively as possible on behalf of producers and importers of electrical and electronic equipment. A collective approach is almost inevitable, especially for small and medium-sized companies. The participating companies are mostly members of the five FHI sectors: Industrial Electronics, Building Automation, Industrial Automation, Laboratory Technology and Medical Technology. The equipment collected by RTA is diverse, from measuring and control equipment to laboratory instruments and hospital equipment. The Regulation assumes legal producer responsibility: manufacturers and importers of electrical and electronic equipment are obliged to ensure that discarded equipment is collected and recycled on their behalf in an environmentally friendly manner. In addition, companies must also register and report to the designated entity by the government National (W)EEE Register. As a producer collective, the RTA Foundation takes care of this registration and also arranges the legally required reporting of the quantities of electrical and electronic equipment placed on the market to Register. For the actual collection and processing of the equipment, RTA has a partnership with Coolrec, part of the Van Gansewinkel Group. Using modern, environmentally friendly processing systems, the equipment is dismantled and the residual materials are separated into 'monostreams'. These materials are then made suitable for reuse as raw materials for new products. The costs for RTA's collective producer system are covered by the annual participation contribution and the disposal contribution that you pay as a participant. Members of FHI do not pay an annual participation fee. The board and management of RTA do their utmost to keep all costs as low as possible in order to comply with our and your legal and social obligations.
