Simplicity® Plain Bearings Gain Credibility In The Woodworking Industry

Problem:
Woodworking requires bearings that can withstand severe vibration and shock, but can also withstand severely contaminated environments.
Solution:
Simplicity plain bearings can withstand high vibration loads and continue to work under the most extreme conditions.
Virtually frictionless linear bearing systems are critical for production quantities, accuracy and reproducibility in modern CNC mills and waterjet cutters. The woodworking industry depends on these machines for rapid mass production, ranging from door panels to cabinet construction. An important by-product within this industry is sawdust.

The Sawdust Problem

Sawdust accumulations can lead to premature failure in the rolling elements of low-friction linear bearing systems. Sawdust penetrates the best sealing systems and quickly clogs the ball guides of conventional linear ball bearings. When ball guides seize, they damage the shafts (grooves) that rotate in the bearings, causing sawdust to enter the shaft grooves more quickly and eventually causing system failure altogether.
In general, sawdust and other common environmental factors cause various problems in roller bearings. Contaminants and debris can become trapped in the bearing cage and cause the system to seize and fail. Vibration causes the bearings to shift from their track or become loose. In both cases, this leads to a catastrophic failure and unplanned downtime, resulting in lost profits and increased production time.

The PBC Linear System

Simplicity plain bearings can withstand up to 20 times the load of a traditional roller bearing. The proven technology of the proprietary Frelon® lining ensures even force distribution, where roller bearings have only a limited contact surface and therefore cannot distribute heavy loads effectively. Simplicity products also excel in rotating and oscillating tasks and are resistant to the adhesion of e.g. wood chips and sawdust under workshop conditions.
To combat production disruptions in the woodworking industry, PBC Linear designed an optimized bearing system that moves with the cam steering – completely eliminating alignment problems. A built-in lubricator provides periodic lubrication allowing smooth oscillating movement. This extends the life of the system with smooth, uninterrupted and maintenance-free operation. Overall, the new Simplicity bearings will promote optimized system integration with cost savings and quieter operation.

The Benefits of Simplicity in the Woodworking Industry

PBC Linear's Linear Motion technology is designed for durability, partly because of the patented FrelonGold® liner, but also because there are no moving parts. The liner provides a significant increase in load capacity and speed, and can withstand the most diverse conditions to prevent catastrophic failures. Extreme heat and cold, contaminants, dirt, immersion and vibration do not affect the operation of the bearings. The patented, self-lubricating design also requires virtually no additional lubrication. For the woodworking industry, the liner ensures that the bearings always operate optimally and effortlessly undergo contamination with woodworking waste, even in places with high vibration intensity, such as waterjet cutting or sawing.
