Forklift and reach trucks have been evaluated in recent years from a tool to move goods to advanced “machines” equipped with numerous production and safety-enhancing techniques and systems.

Cold Storage VM3 349 250xbSince these techniques and systems are often aimed at the basic function of the forklift/reach trucks – the physical movement of goods – they do not directly offer added value in the field of registration within logistics processes. This registration is often completed separately from the forklift/reach truck with a handheld terminal to be held by the driver or a truck terminal to be mounted in the forklift/reach truck with an associated handheld scanner.

With the above methods applied, the logistics registration – pallet label and/or location – remains based on physical actions of the forklift/reach truck driver. Practice shows that this method takes time, can lead to registration errors and is often not ergonomic.

It has also been established that every action that the forklift/reach truck driver has to do less - especially actions that are not directly related to operating the forklift/reach truck - contributes to overall safety.

Vierpool makes forklift/reach trucks smarter and safer by integrating scanning equipment into the fork carriage (see photos below). This allows both the pallet and the combinations of pallet and location to be scanned automatically.

This methodology results in:

  • a measurable time saving (no more maneuvering and positioning before scanning)
  • higher reliability (mistakenly scanning the wrong location on a multi-level “collection” location label)
  • improved ergonomics (no strange position to avoid the mast and/or reflective windshield).
  • more safety (the driver only has to focus on operating the forklift/reach truck.
