Tempcontrol celebrates 50 years of innovation in temperature sensors
Tempcontrol, a specialist in temperature measurement and control technology, is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year. Founded in 1975 by Rob and Inge Smits, the family business has grown in half a century into a leading manufacturer of temperature sensors for applications worldwide – from the deep sea to space.
Since its founding, Tempcontrol has undergone impressive development. Starting as a trading company in Voorburg, the company quickly grew into a manufacturer of custom temperature sensors (1980), with its own calibration department (1982), and later a modern cleanroom (2008). Since 2009, Tempcontrol has been located in Nootdorp, where the company has expanded several times in recent years to accommodate this growth.
Today, over 35 employees in Nootdorp work on the development, production, and calibration of high-quality temperature sensors. These sensors are used in a wide range of sectors, including the medical and food industries, aerospace and shipping, semiconductor and petrochemical industries, mechanical and equipment manufacturing, installation companies, water management, and energy.
Family business with a local heart
In 2022, Tempcontrol passed to the second generation, Bob Smits and Marlies Smits, who continue the family tradition. Marlies, along with co-director Stefan van den Bos, oversees Tempcontrol's day-to-day management. The family spirit remains a key driving force: collegiality, solidarity, and loyalty are paramount. Furthermore, the company feels a strong connection to the region. Wherever possible, Tempcontrol collaborates with local businesses, supports training programs, and offers young people opportunities to develop into technical professionals. The company also contributes to society by sponsoring local initiatives, such as sports clubs, the Orange Association, children's gardens, and the Nootdorp holiday week.
Future-oriented
With fifty years of experience, international representation of renowned brands, and a strong focus on innovation and sustainability, Tempcontrol looks to the future with confidence. "It's precisely when things get complicated that we're at our best," say board members Marlies Smits and Stefan van den Bos.
