Review of PI Community Day 2025
By: Aurélie Veltema
PI Community Day 2025 focused on connection. Participants shared knowledge, exchanged practical experiences, and looked ahead to the future of industrial communication.
PI's core technologies—PROFIBUS, PROFINET, IO-Link, omlox, MTP, SRCI, and NOA—form the common thread. These technologies, together, ensure reliable communication, secure data flows, flexible production, and future-proof integration.
Plenary opening
The board of PI Netherlands opened the day. Three board members provided a clear explanation of PI's mission and focus. Dietmar Bohn, Managing Director of PI International, then shared global developments and enthusiastically discussed the membership benefits that PI members can immediately enjoy, from certification to technical support.
Tjerco den Exter will then discuss cybersecurity in industrial networks. His appeal: "Don't wait for new legislation like NIS2 or CRA, but take measures now in design and management."
Meet the Expert
After the plenary session, visitors will get hands-on during the Meet the Expert program. Attendees will present hands-on demos of the latest applications. Visitors attended three short sessions: Ethernet-APL commissioning, PROFINET diagnostics, and UWB localization with omlox.
Deepening in sessions
In two rooms, experts share their insights, guidelines, and best practices. Visitors can explore topics such as:
- PROFINET Design Guidelines – how do you design a robust network?
- Commissioning & Troubleshooting – direct insight into network load, extraneous traffic and firmware versions.
- Network segmentation according to IEC 62443 – zones and conduits as the basis for Defense-in-Depth.
- Ethernet APL – explosion-proof, quick and easy to integrate.
Each session combines theory with live examples and audience interaction.
Conclusion & outlook
We'll conclude the day with an interactive panel discussion led by PI board member Mette Bertelsen. Speakers will reflect on the key questions and insights together with the audience. We look back on a day rich in content, with plenty of connection, interaction, and practical knowledge sharing.
