Laser sensors often measure either the transit time of light or the phase shift in distance measurements. Both methods have their advantages and disadvantages: the transit time is fast, but often not accurate enough due to the complex time measurement. The phase shift measurement is considerably more accurate, but slower than pure transit time measurement due to the more complex processing.
