This type detects levels of liquids and solids using ultrasonic sensors of the Balluff brand.

If you want to reliably detect levels in silos and tanks to find the right solution, ask yourself the following questions: What distance to the object do you need? Can the sensor make contact with the medium? How much installation space do you have available? What environmental conditions does the sensor need to have (elevated temperatures, moisture, oil, dirt, etc.)? In this way, you can select the right technology/technique for your desired application.

Application examples

Capacitive sensors reliably detect the level of granulate in a tank. To achieve this, two sensors are placed in the tank opposite each other. A signal is generated when a minimum or maximum level is exceeded. This prevents overfilling or equipment failure due to the granulate falling below a minimum level. Capacitive sensors are designed for easy installation.

Ultrasonic sensors detect the exact filling height of a tank without contact. This type of sensor ensures that a continuous filling process can take place. Ultrasonic sensors are also reliable over longer distances and do not require any additional components, such as reflectors.

Sensor technologies

Depending on the area of application, different technologies can be used for level detection:

  • Capacitive sensors for detecting the presence or level of almost any material and liquid at close range (<50 mm)
  • Ultrasonic sensors for detecting virtually any object over longer distances (> 50 mm) using sound
