Linear ball bearings in bottle filling machines are the bottleneck
A manufacturer of bottle filling machines experienced problems with the linear ball bearings after the cleaning process of their machines. The cleaning agent that was used removed the lubrication from the linear ball bearings. When the lubrication was removed from the components and surfaces, the bearings became stuck on the shaft. The effect was disastrous for both the bearings and the shafts. In addition to the costs of replacing these parts, there was also a significant downtime of the machine, which resulted in a significantly lower production.
The solution
Simplicity® plain bearings were used as an effective alternative to linear ball bearings. Eltrex Motion has successfully applied this solution several times in many washdown applications in the food industry. The plain bearing Frelon® liners produce a microscopic transfer of a thin layer that creates a smooth interaction between the bearing and the shaft. This provides the self-lubricating property of Frelon on Frelon. Simplicity plain bearings are also designed to sweep particles from the shafts, so seals are not necessary. Regular seizure of the linear bearing on the shaft is now prevented.
Results / ROI
The customer response to the Eltrex Motion solution of using Simplicity plain bearings in this harsh environment has been very positive. The bearing is able to move without lubrication, protect the shafts and provide long life in washdown areas. It will continue to provide this filling machine manufacturer with an improved alternative to ball bearings. The bottom line is a reduction in total cost of ownership achieved by using PBC Linear bearings.
