What is the role of efficiency in the automotive industry?
Lightyear's mission is to provide clean mobility. In his interactive presentation 'Efficiency enabled by power electronics as key driver for EV adoption', co-founder Arjo van der Ham tells more about the importance of efficiency. The role of power electronics in these challenges is also discussed in detail.

Van der Ham will provide a webinar at the Power Electronics event on Wednesday, June 9 at 4 p.m.
“In our presentation we tell more about the history of our company, discuss our business operations and highlight our future plans,” explains the founder. “The common thread of our webinar is the importance of efficiency. It sounds so obvious, but in practice efficiency often appears not to be properly implemented at companies in the automotive sector.”
By improving efficiency in terms of range, costs and charging times, you will make a lot of profit, says Van der Ham: “By working more efficiently, batteries last longer and you can cover greater distances with them. By shortening charging times, an electric vehicle suddenly becomes a lot more interesting. This way you appeal to a larger audience. Our presentation also discusses the role of power electronics. We provide insight into a number of solutions in that area.”

In the presentation, Van der Ham shares the challenges the automotive sector faces. “What should you take into account when developing an efficient solar-powered electric car? What is the role of power electronics in these challenges and what is needed to tackle these issues? We hope to provide answers to these questions. We also share an update on current developments in the field of EV. How do you go from high to low voltage and how do you reduce costs and increase safety? The implementation of solar panels on vehicles and improvements when it comes to cooling are also discussed.”
Lightyear is going through a growth spurt. “That means we need new people and hopefully our presentation will attract attention. We hope to deliver our hundred thousandth car in five years. The plan is to produce at high volume in 2026. Now our cars are available at low volume. In half a decade, we want to produce more affordable vehicles that are at Tesla's price level.”
The Power Electronics event will take place online from Tuesday 8 to Thursday 10 June. Arjo van der Ham's interactive presentation starts on Wednesday, June 9 at 4:00 PM. You can register via this link register for this webinar. click here to see an overview of all presentations.
