A few months ago the climate working group started a joint initiative. The effect of sunlight on various materials will be tested over a period of two years. This may not be an exceptional test, were it not for the fact that these test setups will be located in three locations (Italy, Malaysia and the United States). The aim of the initiative is not to just generate test results, but rather to describe the entire process, so that experiences can be shared with PLOT members.

The first steps have now been taken. The frames for the test setup are (almost) ready, thanks to the efforts of Accell. Mark and Marten-Hans, two colleagues at the Accell Reliability & Research Center, like to be hands-on with technology in their spare time. Mark has his own scooter maintenance, sales and repair company and Marten-Hans likes to work with wood. From building guitars to canopies. Together they regularly take on jobs from companies when it comes to developing test setups or storage solutions.

For example, during the PLOT meeting at Accell they offered to see what solution they could come up with for the field test setups.

The request was to come up with a compact, light setup on which 4 plates could be attached at an angle to be placed on a roof in different places around the world. To this end, Accell has built six frames of a folding aluminum construction that can be completely dismantled (for transport).

After working out the cutting list, sawing and deburring largely a Lego building kit for adults. Some parts were no longer in stock at the supplier, so alternatives were used. The guys at Accell are curious whether you as a reader can see which parts these are (watch the video). The 4 plates per setup are made of Trespa and attached with stainless steel bolts with spacers to prevent other climatic influences from affecting the test.
