At the distribution counter of the trade fair gadget, this year the Omgevingsmonitor, a group of students from Windesheim University of Applied Sciences are busy with screwdrivers. One of the students is removing the plastic layer from the solar panel. “We just have to activate it later,” he says. “And then of course hack it and connect it to the home assistant,” he adds. The third-year students are at the trade fair for the first time. “There are nice things to see everywhere and I am looking for an internship. Collecting the different parts is a nice starting point for talking to companies. This really feels like a candy store.”

On the other side of hall 9 at KITT Engineering, the electronics enthusiasts have already taken a step further. One by one, the visitors connect their creation to the computer to program it. Teun Noordkamp of KITT Engineering talks about the development of the Omgevingsmonitor. “The goal of the gadget is to let people gain experience with electronics and make the step towards technology. It is a boyhood dream for me to work on this. Great to see that almost all 1500 gadgets have already been sold and are being distributed across the Benelux.”
