Businesses today are increasingly shaped by the disruptions of the energy transition, emerging digital technologies, and evolving perspectives on workforce structure and organization. These forces are redefining the context in which companies operate and manage their assets. What will be the impact on business processes when decisions are prepared by systems but made by people? And looking ahead, what happens when systems both prepare and make decisions, with human intervention only as a safeguard? In this shifting landscape, how can actionable insights from field instrumentation support these changes and drive the transformation of operations and maintenance?
This presentation gives an overview of Shell's journey to unlock the value of rich datasets from process and safety instrumentation (forgotten vegetables), aiming to enhance the reliability of production facilities thru:
- Reducing unplanned downtime
- Improving maintenance efficiency and TA scoping
- Creating new insight into process conditions
- Enabling remote analysis, minimizing physical access to facilities
