During this presentation, you will discover how advanced vision technology and artificial intelligence are used to compensate for natural variations in greenhouse conditions.

The sun's position constantly influences the ratio of flesh, moisture, and skin in tomatoes, which directly affects weight and size. Our high-capacity sorting machine—up to 10,000 tomatoes per half hour—automatically adapts to these changes. A built-in machine learning curve The system compares the measured packaging weight with the vision system's prediction. The AI continuously checks whether the prediction is still accurate and adjusts the algorithms for maximum accuracy.

The neural network also recognizes products that are close together and accurately distinguishes tomatoes and cucumbers, including details like the stem. This ensures reliable processing, even under varying light and product conditions.

About the speaker:

I have been building machines and their controls for 32 years, from drilling platforms to floor covering weaving machines, from the Netherlands to Gabon.

From hydraulics, pneumatics, drive technology, PLCs and sensors to PCs, linear motors, lasers, vision, digital twin, test systems, ML and now AI.

I have been fortunate enough to witness many technical advances and now we are at the beginning of a new phase.

Before this, as Engineering Manager, I was mainly concerned with setting up and further structuring the engineering during the start-up phase and merger of two companies.
Now 4 divisions with C++, Automation, Mechanical and System Engineering, with team leads guiding each department.

Now that we are in a scale-up phase, there are cross-departmental issues within Crux Agribotics.
That's why I'm now focusing on new technological developments and safety, including how new regulations (Machinery Regulation, CRA, and NIS2, for example) impact practical application.

In addition, I am responsible for further guaranteeing and controlling quality.
