Controllers based on Model Predictive Control (MPC) offer several advantages in the control of dynamic systems. This is especially the case when different parameters influence each other and the system must remain within defined limits. Such situations are common in power electronics. These advantages of MPC include the fast and accurate tracking of highly dynamic references. In addition, various limits can be handled in an integrated manner in the hardware, and thus MPC offers the best possible usability of available hardware. As an example, an MPC-based current control has been designed for a 3-phase active power filter with LCL filter.
