Embedded software is increasingly subject to safety and security requirements. This means standards, certification processes, and often significant costs. Where do you start, what choices should you make, and how can you prevent certification from becoming unnecessarily complex or expensive?

This presentation is aimed at engineers, architects, and technical decision-makers who will be dealing with embedded software certification now or in the near future. Even if certification isn't (yet) mandatory, but you want to improve the quality and robustness of your software, this session will offer valuable insights.

Gerard Fianen will guide you through the most important safety and security standards and show how they came about. He will also discuss the role of development and test tools, which is important in this context when selecting an RTOS, and their impact on certification to the desired Safety Integrity Level (SIL).

Drawing on practical experience since the 1990s, he shares concrete lessons learned from projects where development and testing tools have been successfully deployed for certified systems. The goal is to provide you with tools to make the right choices early on, thus saving time and money in the development and certification process.

Speaker: Gerard Fianen – INDES Integrated Development Solutions BV.
