Artificial intelligence is increasingly changing how physicians handle complex medical decision-making. By analyzing large amounts of medical data and scientific literature, AI can uncover patterns that are difficult for humans to grasp. In pediatric oncology, this development is concretely demonstrated in Capricorn, an AI tool that links relevant research results with anonymized patient data to support treatment options when standard therapy fails. Initiator Dr. Uri Ilan doesn't see AI as a replacement for physicians, but as a tool that saves time, makes knowledge more accessible, and can improve the quality of medical decision-making. For now, physicians remain ultimately responsible, although the role of AI in healthcare will continue to grow.

This article uses Capricorn and the vision of Dr. Uri Ilan to explore how artificial intelligence is already being used in healthcare and what impact this technology could have on medical decision-making in the future.

Speaker: Uri Ilan, MD – Lead of AI innovation Princess Maxima Center
